Obituary for Ramon Luis Pagan

Ramon Luis Pagan was born April 19, 1944 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Julio Pagan and Guadalupe Rodriguez. He entered into rest on September 28, 2021 in Camden, South Carolina.

Ramon spent his youth in Puerto Rico before moving stateside as a young man. New York became his second home. Ramon decided to serve his country and enlisted in the US Navy. He served for over twenty years of combined active and reserve service before retirement. Ramon also did some draftsman work in New York following his active duty enlistment. He would soon find employment with the New York Department of Corrections. “Moncho”, as he was affectionately called, was well respected by both his fellow guards and the inmates he was tasked with guarding. He worked at Rikers Island and would also retire from the department of corrections. Moncho would relocate to South Carolina following his retirement. The climate, topography and culture reminded him of home, Puerto Rico.

Moncho was a loving family man. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life and one of his greatest accomplishments. His humor, whit and compassion were shared with everyone he came into contact with. When he wasn’t telling jokes and riddles, Moncho enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching sports and serving with the American Legion.

Those that remain to cherish life’s memories include his wife, Norma T. Pagan; children, Sonia, Nancy, Freddy and Angel; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; extended relatives and friends.
