LUGOFF, SC Officials are investigating the cause of a fire at a Kershaw County Target Distribution Center late Monday night.
Lugoff Fire-Rescue crews responded to Target Distribution Center, 22 Corporate Drive, around 11:30 p.m. and found moderate smoke coming from the trailer of a tractor in a commercial vehicle parking area away from the main building.
Staff previously attempted to enter the trailer and use a fire extinguisher but could not due to heavy smoke and fire inside, according to a news release from Lugoff Fire-Rescue.
Lugoff firefighters extinguished the fire, which had burned household materials toward the middle of the load in the trailer. Fire damage was limited to the trailer and its contents.
The trailer held unsold and salvaged furniture, paint, clothing, carpeting and other household items from Target stores.
Fire crews from Blaney, Doby’s Mill, and Pine Grove Fire Departments also assisted.
Lugoff Fire-Rescue Chief Dennis Ray said staff at the Target Distribution Center notified firefighters quickly and isolated the trailer from damaging others nearby.
“They provided our command staff with the information we needed to quickly stop the progress of the fire and limit damages,” Ray said. “… We are thankful no one was injured and that the fire was not larger than what it was due to quick notification, rapid arrival and an excellent response by Target staff.”
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
