Obituary of Brenda Jo Owens McLaughlin

CAMDEN – A memorial service for Brenda Jo Owens McLaughlin, 58, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Rev. Bruce Hancock, Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt, and Rev. Denny Haston will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to ALS Foundation.

Mrs. McLaughlin died Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Born in Camden, she was a daughter of the Late Grover Owens and Mary Alice Kelly Owens. She was a supervisor of Admissions at Kershaw County Medical Center for many years and formerly worked at Thermoid. She loved walking, kayaking, canoeing, and inline skating. She delighted in her grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Roy McLaughlin; son, Howard Malloy “Trey” Shumate of Camden, and Grover Kevin Shumate (Hilda) of Easley; step daughters, Chesnee Murdock (David) of Waco, Texas, and Raven Lynn McLaughlin of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Jerry Owens (Katherine) of Cassatt; grandchildren, Mallorie Shumate and Connor Shumate; Keven Shumate, Nicolas Shumate, and Owen Shumate; Wimberly Murdock and Channing Murdock; and many nieces and nephews.
