WINNSBORO – Funeral services for Owens Edward Cook, age 74, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Gordon Memorial Methodist Church, conducted by the Reverend Marty Nasson. Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 19th, at Pope Funeral Home.

Born in Blaney, SC, on July 15, 1931, Mr. Cook was the son of the late Ollie Cook and Mattie Goff Cook. He died on June 17, 2006, in Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. He was a member of Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of Winnsboro Masonic Lodge #11, and had served his country in the U.S. Navy and had retired after 30 years of service. His Navy career carried him to the following ports of call: Charleston, SC; Rodman, C.Z.; Pearl Harbor, T.H.; Hokusuka, Japan; Sasebo, Japan; Subic Bay, P.I.; Hong Kong, B.C.C; Vietnam; Singapore; Djibouti, FTAI; Massawa, ETAI; Diego-Suarez, MAD; Lourenco-Marques, MOZ; Rio de Janeiro; Recife, Brazil; St. Thomas, V.I.; and Roosevelt Roads, P.R. After his military career, Mr. Cook earned both high school and business school diplomas.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Sarah Fowler Cook of the home, three sons, John R. Cook of Boston, Mass., Stephen Branham and his wife, June, and Dean Branham, all of Winnsboro; one daughter, Marsha B. Team of Winnsboro; two brothers, Jimmy Cook of Camden and Bill Cook of Lugoff; and three grandchildren, Ryan Team, Kyle and Coty Branham.

He was predeceased by brothers, Raymond Cook, Elbert Cook and Carl Cook.

Pope Funeral Home is serving the Cook family.
