Ted George Martin Sr., 53, of Elgin died Sunday. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Columbia.

ELGIN – Services for Ted George Martin Sr., 53, will be held at 2 this afternoon, September 25, 2002, at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Reverend George Cashwell and the Reverend Virgil Bagwell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Shives Funeral Home is in charge. Pallbearers will be Joey Martin, David Martin Jr., Stephen Morgan, Jamie Harris, Travis Brazell, Brian Padgett, Jack Morin and Chris Kelly.

Mr. Martin died Sunday, September 22, 2002. Born in Elgin, he was a son of the late White Thomas Martin and Ollie Beatrice Higgins Martin. He had retired as the assistant superintendent over the Sanitation Division at the City of Columbia in 1997. He had fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma, (bone marrow cancer) since July, 2001. He attended Full Gospel Tabernacle in Elgin. He was a very special man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was loved and respected by many. The family appreciates all of the care and compassion received from the Lexington Medical Center and Dr. Steven Madden and staff at The S.C. Oncology Associates, PA office in West Columbia.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Elkins Martin; daughter, Sherry Sloan and her husband, Robert; son, Ted George Martin, Jr., and his wife, Denise; sisters, Louise M. Brown and Doris M. Elkins; brothers, Floyd Martin and White Martin Jr., all of Elgin and William Martin of Irmo; grandchildren, Christopher Lee Bagwell, Jessica Ann Sloan and Robert Judson Sloan Jr.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Beulah M. Brazell and Edna M. Martin.
