12,000 Jam Camden Sidewalks To Give Santa Big Welcome

Camden, Nov. 30 – (Special) – Twelve thousand persons jammed the sidewaks in the business district of Camden to witness the opening of Santa Claus lane this afternoon.

A parade featuring high school bands from Kershaw, Florence, Lynchburg, Blaney and Camdem, many floats, hundreds of riders on gayly decorated bicycles, clowns, fire department equipment, Camden academy, girl scouts, boy scouts and a float carrying Santa Claus moved through the packed lines of spectators. It was one of the most elaborated parades seen in Camden in a decade.

The youngsters literally mobbed the Santa Claus float, eager for gifts which Saint Nick tossed out along the line of March. Four police officers flanked the Santa Claus vehicle to keep the children from getting under the wheels.

At dusk the many thousands of street lights which formed a canopy over the streets were turned on.
