John Glenn Motley Sr. was born on 28 May 1868 in Elgin, Kershaw, South Carolina, USA a child of James B Motley and Elizabeth “Lizzie Beath” McDonald Motley.

Motley Rites

Funeral Services For John G. Motley, Sr., 75, prominent farmer of near Pontiac, will be held at the Union Baptist Church near Blaney at 11 a.m. Saturday. The services will be conducted by the Rev. A. L. Willis and the Rev. Gordon Johnson. Interment will be in the Union Baptist Churchyard.

Mr. Motley died yesterday afternoon after an illness of several years. He had lived on the same plantation all his life. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and was active in community life.

Mr. Motley is survived by his widow, the former Fannie Cooper Thornton; four daughters, Mrs. J. G. Monroe, Mrs. W. D. Sanders of Blaney, Mrs. E. H. Ross of Columbia, and Mrs. G. D. Goodwin of Columbia; five sons, J. G. Motley, Jr., of Blaney, George Motley, with the United States Army in Italy, J. R. Motley of Cheraw, and Leves Motley and Coley Motley of Blaney.

Twenty-two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three brothers, T. W. Motley and W. H. Motley of Columbia, and J. B. Motley of Blaney, also survive.

The active pallbearers, who will meet at 10 a.m. in the home, are: Lawrence Rose, B. K. Rose, G. P. Monroe, Glenn Downey, Earle Jacobs and Glenn T. Jacobs.

The honorary pallbearers, who will meet at the church at 11 a.m., are : J. W. Conder, Wade H. Cobb, Alex Heise, J. Drake Edens, Clint T. Graydon, A. Fletcher Sprigner, Dr. J. F. Dobson, Dr. W. D. Grisby, Dr. W. A. Boyd, T. E. Bowen, James Dunning Walter Rose, S. H. Ross, A. L. Ross, Simon Faust, J. N. Finley and Herman Geiger.
