Special Trains Bring The Visitors Today.

Arrivals Yesterday Twice as Numerous as Last Year.

EXTRA TRAINS TO HANDLE CROWDS

By Tonight Columbia Will be Crowded With Folks From Every Section of South Carolina.

And still they come. Every train coming into the city is now filled with visitors to the greater – or rather the GREATEST state fair and the number of passengers on the incoming train is increasing with every hour. Today the passenger stations will be filled with a surging, rushing mass of humanity all with one objective point in view, and the point is the new fairgrounds.

Until today the traffic on all of the railroads has been handled by their regular trains with extra coaches for the extra coaches for the extra crowd but today all the roads will put into operation the special trains from all parts of the State, which will be necessary to meet the requirements of the great Wednesday and Thursday throngs.

Not only have the day trains been crowded to their doors but even the trains arriving at the dead of night have brought their portion.

Nearly 2,000 people came in on all of the different railroads yesterday before night on the reduced fair week rate coupon tickets. This is more than twice as many as arrived for the same time last year and none of the night trains were included in the count. There were ten trains on the Southern alone not included and probably the total number of visitors arriving for the 24 hours up to midnight last night will amount to 3,00 or more. The largest number of arrivals from any one section was from Greenville, Anderson and intermediate points. The number to arrive from points between Charlotte and Columbia was 244 and from between here and Augusta 161. The Spartanburg train brought 146 from that city, Jonesville, Union and other Stations along the line. There were only 37 to come from Allendale and the points between here and there. The trains from Charleston had on board 136 passengers for the fair. Nearly 250 more were on the trains arriving on the system during the night, which were not counted in the above. Trains on the Columbia, Newberry and Laurens brought 155 bearers of the coupon tickets and on the Seaboard Air Line there were approximately 175, while on the Atlantic Coast Line the number probably reached 300.

Today and tomorrow the special trains arranged on all roads will bring the bulk of the fair week travel. All of the specials will carry eight and nine coaches and if they are not amply sufficient to accommodate the travel the crowd will so far surpass that of any previous fair that a new record for attendance may be established.
