Obituary of Howard Ray Hinson, Jr.

Howard Ray Hinson, Jr., better known as Chuck, was killed in a motorcycle accident on September 2, 2023.  He was doing one of the things he loved most…riding his Harley-Davidson.

Chuck was born in Richland County on January 9, 1960, to Howard Ray Hinson, Sr. (Buck) and Carolyn Loretta Kelly Hinson (Loby); who preceded him in death; along with Jean Jordan who was like another mother to him.

Chuck is survived by a son, Richard Brice Ray Hinson of Elgin; and Brice’s mother, Denise Hinson-Posadas (Reynaldo) of Elgin.

Surviving brothers include Tim Hinson (Jan) of Irmo and Michael Hinson of Conway.  Chuck leaves behind a dear friend who was truly a brother to him; Greg Jordan of Florida.

Those who knew Chuck saw the following traits in him: hard worker; caregiver; bike rider; a heart to give and help others; loved growing plants/gardening and loved going to Winnsboro with his Kelly side of the family.  His first love were his four-legged furry friends who were his family.  Chuck was known to bring home any dog that looked like they had no place to go or no one who cared.  Harley Ray, Smokey, Tucker and Loby are still watching the door waiting for Chuck to pull in the driveway.  Chuck’s last wishes were to keep them together.

In the last 12 months, Chuck found the friendship of Leah Bullock who quickly filled his life with a sense of family.  Leah and Jackson were a blessing to him in his last days.  Chuck loved being with them.

Chuck was a very proud employee of HARSCO.  He was so grateful for that work privilege and for the many friends that he made there.

Services for Chuck are planned for Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at Belmont Baptist Church located at 901 Mason Road in Columbia, South Carolina.  Pastor Brenda Kneece will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the gifts of dog food as they search for a loving individual(s) to take his precious critters as a package.  Other suggested memorials would be to local animal shelters who have a “no kill” policy.

The family is grateful for the overwhelming care and concern during this difficult time as we adjust to Chuck’s absence.

Chuck’s closing message to his biker family…”Be Safe Out There.”
