Obituary of Dorothy Bass Dixon
Dorothy Bass Dixon, 91, of Camden, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. Born in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander Bass and Lillie Ann Walters Bass, and the wife of the late James Woodrow Dixon. Mrs. Dixon was a lifetime member of Hermitage Baptist Church in Camden, where she served as Church Secretary, Church Historian, the first Director of Library Services, and she also compiled and edited the first Church Directory. She was a graduate of Camden High School, Palmer College, and the Art Instruction School of Minnesota. She spent her working life as a Payroll and Personnel Specialist for Tic Tac and Hermitage Mills, and she also modeled for agencies in Columbia. Dot also enjoyed the arts, including wildlife carving, painting, music, and dance.
She is survived by her son, James Woodrow Dixon, II (Teresa) of Elgin.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Jo Lloyd, Myrtle Bass Baker, and James Henry “Pumpy” Bass.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Hermitage Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Hopkins. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
