A funeral service to celebrate the life of Evelyn Elizabeth “Betty” Brown Creed, 93, of Greenville, formerly of Camden, will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden. The Reverend Pickett Wall will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Quaker Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM, one hour prior to the service, in the Canterbury Room at Grace Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205 or the Camden Archives, 1314 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.
Betty died on Monday, July 19, 2021. Born in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Weaver and Lillian Green Brown. She was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, and attended St. Genevieve of the Pines, Asheville, and UNC Chapel Hill. Betty met her husband, James “Jim” Leroy Creed, Sr. in Asheville, where they were married on April 15, 1950. In the summer of 1952 they moved to Camden. Betty was a member of Grace Church, King Haigler Garden Club, Camden Country Club, and Springdale Hall. She enjoyed golf, tennis, travel, and bridge, and was a member of the same bridge club for over 50 years. Most especially she enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Creed Goodale (Billy) of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Ronna Caulder Creed, of Camden; grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth “Sarah Beth” Creed Bradley (Adam) of Camden, Dewey James “DJ” Creed (Elizabeth) of Camden, James Andrew McKinney (Erin) of Seneca, and Matthew Creed McKinney (Tabitha) of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Evie and Lilly Bradley, Kai and Elli McKinney, and Wren and Carly McKinney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her son, James “Jimmy” Leroy Creed, Jr.; great-grandson, Daniel James Bradley, and brothers, Vernon Weaver Brown, Jr. and Perry Walker Brown.
