Elgin, South Carolina – Lemuel William Wooten, Sr., age 88, of Elgin, South Carolina passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Blaney, South Carolina on June 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Charlie Wooten and Willie Mae Nettles Wooten. He was a graduate of the first class at Camden Military Academy in 1951. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Nancy Strickland Wooten, five children Deborah “Debi” Black (John), Ruthann Wooten, Lemuel Wooten Jr. (Linda), Carl Wooten (Deanne), & Susan Rankin (Jack), eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Charlie Wray Wooten II. Lem began working in the saw mill and timber business, construction business from 1969-2008. He served as a deacon of Blaney Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and had some great fish stories— he always had a story or a joke to tell. He loved his wife and his family above & beyond. There will be a private memorial service at Harmony Baptist Church, Elgin, SC.
