Mr. James L. Murphy departed this life on Sunday, July 5, 2020.  Born on July 1, 1927, in Lugoff, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Jimmie (James) Murphy and Annie Haile Murphy. 

After graduating from Jackson High School, in Camden, South Carolina, he enlisted in the United States Army, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal in recognition of his occupation service in Germany.  He was a decorated veteran who valiantly served this country in the Korean War. Following his honorary discharge from the Army, he married Mary L. Grant and they settled in Brooklyn, New York.  To this happy union, four children were born.

Mr. Murphy was a retired business owner and enthusiastic collector. He enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, and had a great sense of humor and infectious laugh. After he retired, he and his wife returned to their home state, where he spent many hours enjoying his favorite pastime of freshwater fishing. He was a loving husband and father and loyal friend. He was a devoted member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Lugoff, S.C., where he served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board and a Sunday School teacher for several years.

In addition to his deceased parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Cauthen, Mrs. Addie Carter, and Mrs. Mary Ruth (Nan) Drumgole; a daughter, Mrs. Brenda Murphy Fields.

Mr. Murphy leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his loving wife, Mrs. Mary L. Murphy; a daughter, Beverly C. Murphy, Esq. and her husband James Ken-Kwofie of NJ; a daughter, Sheba Murphy Jennings and her longtime companion Terrence Edwards of SC; a son, Dr. Saied T. Murphy and his wife Wendy Murphy of GA; a devoted nephew and niece Harold Cauthen and his wife Carol Cauthen of SC;  a legacy of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
