Obituary
Mary Alice Adams Grant was born on August 28th 1931, to the late Deacon Willie and Alice Lewis. She passed peacefully at Prisma Health Toumey Hospital to join our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 6th 2020.
Mary attended Canty Hill School in Kershaw County, and she accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Canty Hill Baptist Church in Cassatt, SC. She met and married the late Samuel Adams Sr. on December 21st 1948.
Then she joined St. Stephen Baptist church where she served on the Gospel Choir, Missionary Society, and later the Senior Choir. Her favorite song was “I’m alright Now”. She loved children and later became a foster parent. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, quilting, and baby sitting.
After the death of her first husband of 30 years, she married Elisha Grant Sr. in August of 1989. They were two workaholics who loved gospel music. They went from church to church listening to choirs singing and enjoying their senior years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Samuel Adams Sr.; her second husband Elisha Grant Sr.; three brothers: James Lewis, Andrew Lewis, and Henry Lewis; sister: Izetta Whitely; step-daughter: Betty Reynolds; two step-son: Elisha Grant Jr.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories, two children: Mary (Robert) Goodwin of Rembert, SC and Samuel (Vanessa) Adams Jr. of Camden, SC; three step-children: Betty Grant, Valerie Grant, and Ronnie Grant all of Camden, SC; sister, Willie Mae Pate of Camden, SC; brother, Joseph (Ester) Lewis of Richmond, VA; four sisters-in-law, Alma Adams of Cassatt, SC, Mable Ellis of Camden, SC, Betty Lewis of Columbia, SC, and Ethel Lewis of CT; brother-in-law: Kenred Whitely of Sumter, SC; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
