Reba Ogburn Truesdale of Camden, South Carolina | 1931 – 2020

Mrs. Reba O. Truesdale, 88, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born on May 11, 1931 in Kershaw County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Lewis Perry Ogburn and Mrs. Julia Boyce Bowers Ogburn. Mrs. Truesdale was the wife of the late Samuel C. Truesdale, Jr. for 29 years. In 1964, the Truesdale Family was presented with the coveted Farm and Home Development Award by the Clemson University Extension Service for outstanding accomplishment in Farm and Home Development. A homemaker, described as “an ideal mother with an ideal family,” she was an active member of the DeKalb Home Demonstration Club, Kershaw County Home Demonstration Council, a county advisor to the 4-H Council Board, and a member of the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. Later, she worked at Skyline Manufacturing and as a substitute teacher for Baron DeKalb Elementary. As a longtime member of DeKalb Baptist Church, she served in the WMU and the Seniors group. She loved to ride horses, cook meals for her family, and host luncheons and showers for her family and community. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. Her favorite times were spent at home with her family and at her beloved Pawley’s Island.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Hammond (Robbie); sons Sammy Truesdale (Carolyn) and Joey Truesdale (Dianne). She was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed the company of her longtime friend, Bobby Jones and her caregiver, Mrs. Peggy Hammond. She was predeceased by her sons, Johnny Truesdale, Eddie Truesdale, and Stevie Truesdale. She was also predeceased by brothers, Randolph Ogburn, Bill Ogburn and Mendel Ogburn and sister, Katherine Ogburn Hudson. A well respected member of the DeKalb Community, Mrs. Reba O. Truesdale was a true example of grace and strength for her family and all who knew her. Her legacy as a true southern lady will continue with her family, friends and those who enjoyed a seat at her table.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Reba O. Truesdale will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 am at DeKalb Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Visitation for the family will follow burial in the church fellowship hall. The Rev. Jimmy Holley and Rev. Brian Cobb will officiate. Memorials can be made to DeKalb Baptist Church.
