Doris Nita Miles Fulmer was born, Thursday, August 06, 1925 in Blaney, South Carolina, a daughter of Walter Leon Miles and Lillie Easter Owens Miles.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on May 3, 1930, Walter L Miles (41) owned a home in Wateree Township, Kershaw, South Carolina with his wife, Lillie E Miles (30). It was reported that they were married when he was 30 and she was 16. Also in the home was their children; Mildred E Miles (9), Oliver L Miles (6) Dorthy Miles (4) and Emmie D Miles (2); his mother; Nancy E Miles (69); and his niece, Margarite E Owens (13). It was reported that all family members were born in South Carolina. Walter L Miles was a farmer on a general farmer.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 12, 1940, W L Miles (51) owned a home in Wateree Township, Kershaw, South Carolina with his wife, Lillie E Miles (40) and their children; Mildred Miles (19), Oliver L Miles (16), Doris Miles (14), Emma Dora Miles (13), Fay Miles (9), Betty Miles (7), and William Preston Miles (1), and his brother-in-law, Owens Poynor Miles (28). It was reported that all family members were born in South Carolina and lived in the same house on April 1, 1935. W L Miles was an operator of a farm.

1960

On August 10, 1960, Mrs. Doris M. Fulmer was listed in the newspaper article “Blaney School Will Open August 31.”

2005

On August 22, 2005, Doris Fulmer was listed as a living sister in the obituary of Emma Dora Miles Bilbo.

2011

On January 25, 2011, Doris Fulmer was listed as a living sister in the obituary of William “Cuz” Preston Miles.

2016

Doris Miles Fulmer, 91, of Elgin, wife of the late Alfred Rhett Fulmer, Sr., passed away Monday, December 12, 2016. 

Mrs. Fulmer was a member of Blaney Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class.  She was also a member of Woodmen of the World and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving were her sons, Alfred R. Fulmer, Jr. of Camden, Donald Walter Fulmer (Belinda) of Elgin, Dale Kenneth Fulmer (Virginia) of Elgin; daughter, Doris Jean Hodge (William) of Camden; sisters, Betty Poole of Elgin, Gloria Squires of Camden; daughter-in-law, Sharron Morris; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Mildred Branham, Emma Dora Bilbo, Faye Duich, Jean Miles; and brothers, William “Billy” Miles and Buster Miles.

A graveside service was held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Blaney Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jacob Helsely and the Rev. Philip Blankenship officiated. The family received friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church.
