Mary Boykin Kessler was born March 30, 1923 in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Mary Clarkson Boykin and Thomas Ancrum Boykin.
Mary Boykin Kessler, wife of Herman Eugene Kessler, died Sunday, December 11, 2016.
Mary graduated from the University of South Carolina class of 1944. She taught English in South Carolina and in England, until her marriage. She then became a devoted military wife and loving mother to Brisbane and Burroughs. Mary and Eugene were happily married for 64 years. She lived in Chapel Hill from 1981 to 1990. Mary lived in Camden, SC from 1988 to 2005 and in West Columbia, SC from 2005 to the present.
Mary was survived by her loving son, Eugene Burroughs Kessler (Susan) of Brentwood, TN; and his three grandchildren, Bradley Kessler, Zachary Kessler and Sarah Kessler.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Brisbane Kessler and sister, Betty Gunn.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Still Hopes Episcopal Home, 1 Still Hopes Drive, W. Columbia, SC 29269. Father Richard Crozier officiates. Burial was in Quaker Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Davis officiating.
