Mr. Robert Paul Byars December 18, 1921 – December 7, 2016

Robert Paul Byars was born in Rock Hill, SC, on December 18, 1921, he was a son of Dovie Raines Byars and Robert Byars.

Robert Paul Byars, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

Mr. Byars worked at the Naval Base in Charleston, SC until he enlisted in the Navy in 1944. He served in the Pacific during World War II. Having moved to Columbia after the war, Mr. Byars worked for Kline Iron and Steel for 37 years as a project manager until his retirement.

Survivors included his daughters, Glenda (Michael) Johnson of Johns Island, SC, Carol (David) Brumfield of Cypress, TX, and Alisa (Richard) Monsees of Brewster, NY; grandchildren, Christina Monsees Jendzejec, Kathryn Johnson, Courtney Monsees, and Matthew Brumfield; great granddaughter Kayla Jendzejec; and sisters, Dorothy Smith, Ruth Lucas, and Sally Blaich.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Motley Byars; two brothers and one sister.

A graveside service was held for Mr. Byars at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. The officiant will be The Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Snyder. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
