Hugh McColl “Mac” Lupold

Hugh McColl “Mac” Lupold was born, July 27, 1937 in Charlottesville, VA, the son of the late Melvin Garfield Lupold and Dorothy McColl Lupold.

Hugh McColl “Mac” Lupold, 79, of Camden, SC, husband of Linda Shaw Lupold, died Sunday, December 4, 2016. 

Mac was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the choir and served on the Kershaw County Habitat for Humanity Board. He was a retired LTC with the US Army Reserves. It was his career in Forestry that was his passion. From Milliken to Holly Hill Lumber Co. and Forest Industries to Federal and International Paper to Lupold Consulting, he was recognized as a distinguished forester, not only in the industry, but also formally in 2004 with the Charles H. Flory Distinguished Service Award. He dedicated much of his time and expertise to the SC Forestry Association, acted as a liaison between the real world and the schools of Forestry at Clemson and NC State, and became a well sought after Forest Products Consultant for his wealth of knowledge in the field. Mac has spent the last decade restoring Broad Oaks, the 1826 family home place in Marlboro County.

Mac was survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Amy Westbury (Michael) of Columbia; brother, John Samuel Lupold of Columbus, GA; and his beloved dog, Teddy.

Mac was predeceased by his son, Mac Lupold, Jr.

A funeral service to honor the life of  will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.
