Viola Nell Simmons Richards was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, on February 21, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Percy David Simmons, Sr. and Ruby Lee Kidd Simmons.
Viola Nell Richards, 76, passed away December 2, 2016.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Richards was a devoted and supportive wife to her husband, as he served in the Air Force for over 20 years.
Surviving were her husband of 60 years, Maynard Lee Richards; children, Michael Lee (Jackie) Richards, Tammy (Selwyn) Porter, and Mark Lewis (Gretta) Richards; grandchildren, DeChonna, Shantel, Meagan, Selwyn, II, Corey and Mikey; great-grandchildren, Jakob and Samuel; sister, Iris Hensley.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Horace Simmons and Percy Simmons, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Simmons.
Funeral service were held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family received friends from 11:30 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
