On January 2, 1972, Mrs. Melba Smith was listed as a living daughter in the obituary of Fay Boyd Cooper Sr.

2016

Melba Cooper Smith, 85, of Hopkins, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

Mrs. Smith retired from Allied Chemical after 28 years of service, and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

Survivors included her husband, Robert J. “Bob” Smith; daughters, Diane S. Fox (Richard), Sandi L. Smith; grandchildren, Richard Alan Fox, III, Nicole A. Fox; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ashley, John Jr. and Haileigh; sister, Nell Jenkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Cooper, Herbert Cooper, A.B. Cooper and F.B. Cooper.

A funeral service was held 12 o’clock Thursday, November 3rd at Beulah Baptist Church, 9487 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins, with The Rev. Cameron DeBrew officiating. The family received friends prior to the service, beginning at 11 o’clock. Interment followed in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery, Elgin, SC.

Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, assisted the family.
