John Daniel Blackwell

John Daniel Blackwell was born November 7, 1950 in Abemarle, NC, the son of Cornelia Ussery Blackwell and J.D. Blackwell.

John Daniel Blackwell, 65, of Camden, SC, husband of Jane “PJ” Gunter Blackwell, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

John was a Master Barber, who owned and operated the Blackwell Modern Barber Shop for over 40 years. He was a member of Grace Bible Church, current president of Lion’s Club, current treasurer and past president of the Camden Shrine Club and a charter member of the Jamil Temple. He was a past Worshipful Master of Kershaw Lodge 29, past Commander of the Camden Commandry #12 of the York Rites, past illustrious Master of Camden Council #25, past Sovereign Master of Camden Council #148 A.M.D. John was also a past Worthy Patron of Leslie Zemp Chapter #111 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and past High Priest of Rising Star Chapter #4 R.A.M.

Besides his wife of Camden and his mother of Abemarle, NC, John was survived by his daughters, Gina Gott (Kenny) of Camden and Donna Jelen (Todd) of Brook Park, OH; grandchildren, Nika Marie Jelen and Felix Todd Jelen; sisters, Judy Batten (Bill) of North Myrtle Beach and Barbara Blackwell of Albemarle, NC; brother, Billy Blackwell (Linda) of Aynor, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 4, 2016 at Grace Bible Church. Rev. Paul Stevens and Rev. Homer Hinson officiated. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic and Eastern Star Rites. The family received friends 6:00-7:30, Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church, 600 Boykin Road, Camden, SC 29020.
