Arthur N. Phillips

Arthur N. Phillips was born June 6, 1929, in Warren, Ohio, he was a son of Bernard and Emma Heckathorn Phillips.

Arthur N. Phillips, 87, of Elgin, SC, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

Arthur was an Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a graduate of the former George Peabody Teacher’s College in Nashville, TN. Mr. Phillips had retired as a rubber chemist from B.F. Goodrich and Thermoid, Inc. of Elgin, SC. He also was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC.

Arthur was survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Peggy Phillips; daughter, Yvonne Kelly (John); son, David Phillips (Merry), daughter, Lisa Mathis (John), son, James Flowers (Chris), and daughter, Kimberly Sullivan (Woody). Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Taylor; and brother, Allen Phillips (Delores).

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his brother, Bernard Phillips, Jr., infant brother, David Phillips, and brother-in-law, Cliff Taylor.

Memorials may be made to the South Carolina Heart Association or to the charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Bradley Word and the staff at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.

Arthur will be greatly missed by family and many friends.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, with burial in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Elgin, SC. Rev. L. Craig Wilkes will officiate. The family received friends on Friday, November 4 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel.
