Thomas Gordon Jackson, Sr. NEWBERRY –

Thomas Gordon Jackson, Sr., 78, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland. Born on December 28, 1937, in Prosperity, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Bonnie Hendrix Jackson. He was a graduate of Newberry High School and Newberry College. He had a career in education that allowed him to teach and coach various sports at Calhoun Falls, Kingstree, Hartsville and Boiling Springs High Schools. He was an assistant coach for the South Allstar Basketball team in 1974 and head coach for the North Allstar team in 1982 . Mr. Jackson was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Cross Point Church.

He is survived by sons, Les (Angela) Jackson of Boiling Springs and Tommy (Teresa) Jackson of Thomasville, NC; a daughter, Meri (Scott) Flynn of Boiling Springs; a sister, Judy Jackson (Larry) Patrick of Lugoff; grandchildren, Tyler Clark, Tim (Megan) Jackson, Ashley Jackson and Blake Jackson; Cole Jackson and Allie Jackson; great-grandchildren, Noah Jackson and Braelin Jackson; a niece, Leah (Thomas) Bradberry; a special friend, Punk Beck; uncle, Jason Melvin Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was predeceased by his grandparents, Julian Oscar and Lilly Morris Hendrix and Cloyd Hillard and Corrie Porter Jackson and a nephew, Jamey Patrick.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, October 24, 2016, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Punk Beck, 2034 River Street, Newberry on Sunday from 2:00 5:00 pm and they will also receive friends on Monday from 1:30 2:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
