Knowlton Wyman “KW” Simons Jr. LAURINBURG, N.C. –
Knowlton Wyman Simons, Jr., age 66, of Laurinburg, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in Morrison Manor. Knowlton “KW” was born in Columbia, SC, on June l8, 1950, only son to the late Kathryn Day Simons Sanders.
He was an inspirational man. At the age of 18, he enlisted with the Navy. He returned from Vietnam, a tremendous work ethic driving him from heavy construction to become a highly respected estimator for South Carolina. The pinnacle of KW’s dedication to his work allowed him to serve as project manager of the S.C. State House preservation project, the second largest preservation project in the country at that time. He co-founded and owned his own company, and was thought of highly by many highly respected firms. KW loved the outdoors, taking hunting trips all over the country. His love of nature extended to the sea as well. Whenever KW could be on the water he was, either on fishing trips or teaching his two sons the art of seamanship. He served as a member of the American Legion, was a faithful volunteer with Scotland Regional Hospice and Scotland Memorial Hospital, and was a contributor to charitable organizations including, Feed the Children, March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society. His greatest joy was sharing time with his family. He cared deeply for others. A fountain of knowledge to his sons, and comradery with his friends. A man of pride and indomitable will, he will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his sons, Travis Wayne Simons (Regina Pittman Simons) of Laurinburg, and Zachary Knowlton Simons of Bridgeville, PA; his grandson, Trevor Simons, and sisters, Brenda S. Rorie (James Rorie) of Charlotte, Rose Marie Williams of Camden. He is also survived by nephews Kyle Bush of Pensacola, FL, Sean Bradley of Lugoff, SC, and niece, Beth Havird of Columbia, SC.
Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016. The family will have a memorial service beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Chapel, Lexington, SC. Later on Saturday, a Celebration of Remembrance will be at 6:00 p.m. in the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel following by the receiving of friends. Memorial donations are requested to be given in Knowlton’s memory to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353. Services entrusted to Richard Boles Funeral Service.
