Irene Heath Anderson


On August 30, 1968, Mrs. Irene Anderson was listed as the living daughter in the obituary of John Gary Heath.


On September 30, 1977, Mrs. Irene Anderson was listed as a living daughter in the obituary of Laura Shirley Cook Heath


On September 1, 1994, Irene Anderson was listed as the living sister in the obituary of Nellie Heath Strickland.


On December 31, 2007, Irene Anderson was listed as the living sister in the obituary of Marie Heath Cameron.


COLUMBIA – Irene H. Anderson, 83, of Columbia, known to many as the “Sweet Little Lady”, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 20, 2016. She was born 1933 in Blaney, South Carolina, to the late John G. Heath and Laura C. Heath and was the wife of the late Forest L. (Pete) Anderson. She was a loving and devoted Mama, Grandma, and GiGi to her great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly, along with her family and friends. Irene devoted her life as a caregiver to others and, even in death, donated her body to the USC Medical School Gift of the Body Program in hopes of helping others.

She was a member of Bayview Baptist Church and VFW Post 641 Women’s Auxiliary. She had worked as a coupon distributor at Fort Jackson Commissary and caregiver to family and friends.

Irene is survived by her children, Gene Anderson and Trisha (Paul) McGee of Columbia, and Brenda McGee of Cayce; six granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; loving and devoted twin sister, Alene Dabbs; and longtime friends, Moise Perry and Margaret Sizemore.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Higgins, Marie Cameron, Inez Brown and Nell Strickland; granddaughters, Tiera Houck and Sharlie Glover; and special adopted little sister, Ann Hall.

The family would like to thank the Newberry Chapter of Palmetto Health Hospice workers: Charlotte Berry, RN, Janie Epps, and Erin Mills for the loving care and kindness shown.

A memorial service will be held at Bayview Baptist Church at 5300 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29206 on Thursday, August 25th, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the building fund at Bayview Baptist Church or VFW Post 641, 534 S Beltline Blvd., Columbia, SC 29205.
