Harold Vinson Abbott was born March 17, 1925 in Columbia, Richland, South Carolina, USA to John R Abbott and Katherine Marion Smith Abbott.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 12, 1930, John R Abbott (57) rented a home in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina; also in the home was his wife Katherine M Abbott (39) it was reported that he was first married at age 49 and she was 30 years of age. Also in the home was their son, Harold V Abbott (5) and roomers; Mattie Addison (49), Heyward J Addison (21) and Nellie Addison (21). It was reported that all members of the household were born in South Carolina. Mattie Addison a widow, Heyward J Addison, a married male, and Nellie Addison a single female. John was listed as a driver of a trash wagon, Sadie kept house, and Harold was a student in first grade.

1931

On January 11, 1931, Harold Abbott was listed in the newspaper article “Blaney.”

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on April 6, 1940, John R Abbott (69), owned a home in Kershaw County, South Carolina. Also in the home was his wife, Catherine Abbott (49) and their son, Horvill Abbott (15). It was reported that all family members were born in South Carolina, and John R was a farm operator, Katherine kept house and Harold was in the fifth grade.

1950

On January 1, 1950, Sgt. Harold V. Abbott was listed as the living son in the obituary of John R Abbott.

1969

On October 13, 1969, Harold V. Abbott was listed as the living son in the obituary of Mrs. Katherine Marion Abbott.

2015

Harold Vinson Abbott, 90, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, left his earthly home to be with his Lord, on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Crystal Coast Hospice Center, in Newport.

Harold served his country honorably with the United States Marine Corps during WWII, Korea and Vietnam and retired with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was a 60 year member of the Masonic Semper Fi Lodge, as well as a member of the Silver Star #225.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lemerle Jackson Abbott of the home they shared since 1961.

A Graveside service were held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Chaplain Raymond McPherson officiated.

The family received friends on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, Lemerle requests a donation to either the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605 · 864-271-3444 or the Onslow Assembly #42 of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls of North Carolina in Harold’s name.
