Lois Monroe

Durham, NC- Lois Ross Monroe, 92, formerly of Columbia, SC, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Croasdaile United Methodist Retirement Community, in Durham, NC. Born June 13, 1922 in Kershaw County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Ross and Gussie Ross. Lois retired from Colliers-Keenan, Inc., and was a member Rosewood Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Monroe; as well as three sisters, Cleo Jones, Norma Goff and Lynn Brazell.

Lois is survived by her three daughters, Barbara McCaskill (Bill), of Durham, NC, Deloria Burriss (Jack), of Clinton, SC, and Kaye Simpson, of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Curt McCaskill (Melissa), of Wake Forest, NC, Brad McCaskill, of Hillsborough, NC, Trevin Burriss of Washington, GA, and Michael Burriss (Erin), of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, as well as a special nephew and great nephew, Wayne Goff (Mary), and Gregory Goff, all of Elgin, SC.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in honor of Lois, to the United Methodist Retirement Homes, 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Durham, NC 27705.
