Ethel McCreary Freeman

LUGOFF – Ethel McCreary Freeman, 93, of Lugoff, passed away September 13, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with numerous health problems.

She was born in Columbia, SC, December 13, 1920, to Mr. Clifton W. McCreary and Laura Bruce McCreary. She married Harry S. Freeman, a retired purchasing agent with DuPont, and they made Lugoff, SC, their home. She was predeceased by Mr. Freeman in 2002. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Clifton McCreary, and her sister, Mary Kathryn McCreary.

Ethel was employed for 14 years at the DuPont Plant at Savannah River. She later retired in 1970 from the University of South Carolina as Chief Operator over all telephone offices, where she was employed for 17 years. She was a lady with many talents, above all being a true artist. She created and painted beautiful dolls, nativity sets, Faberge design eggs, ceramics and intricate Christmas ornaments that decorated her tree “year round.” She loved people and animals, not always in that order! She rescued countless animals throughout her years and gave them a loving home. Of greater significance was her love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ethel donated her body to the School of Medicine at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.

Donations may be made to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

A memorial service will be held October 20, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the Rowan Presbyterian Church in Lugoff, SC.
