Martha Kate “Mimi” Lyles Teal was born on January 17, 1928 in Johnsonville, SC, the daughter of the late John A. Lyles and Lina Belle Pratt Lyles.
Kate Lyles Teal, 85, of Camden, widow of the late J.R. Teal, passed away on May 4, 2013.
Kate was survived by her daughters, Dianne Teal Lawhon of Campobello, SC and Holly Teal Johnson (Max A.) of Camden, SC; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and son-in-law, Barry Alter of Las Vegas, NV.
Besides her husband and parents, Kate was predeceased by her son, Robert L. Teal and her daughter, Darlene “Dolly” T. Alter.
Kate was a member of Cassatt Baptist Church for 67 years. She was an active member of the Adelphia Sunday School class, the Woman’s Missionary Union, and served in various other capacities over the years.
Kate loved her family – her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her siblings. Throughout her life, she exhibited aspects of a noble woman as described in Proverbs 31…providing food, rising early to work, and working vigorously. She was a devoted wife for 42 years. Kate also was known for her cooking specializing in homemade biscuits and banana pudding.
The family extends the warmest of gratitude to the staff at the Pinedale Residential Center for the love and care they showed to Kate over the last two years.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Cassatt Baptist Church in Camden. Rev. Dean Elliott and Dr. Charles Everett officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:00-7:30 PM on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.
