Chalmers E. “Chank” Hornsby

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Chalmers E. “Chank” Hornsby, 88, of Camden were held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Camden, burial followed in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Brent Kendall will officiate. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Center beginning at 10:00AM. Memorials may be made in Mr. Hornsby’s memory to First Baptist Church of Camden, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Hornsby, widower of Sue Nell Kennington Eddings Hornsby, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011.

Born in DeKalb Community, he was the son of the late Clarence E. Hornsby and Hattie Mae Drakeford Hornsby.

He was a US Navy WWII veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre, a member of the American Legion Post 17, 40 and 8 and VFW. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden. Mr. Hornsby was retired from DuPont and was co-owner of Workman and Hornsby Memorials.

Surviving were his sons, Gene (Sue) Hornsby, Bobby (Mary) Eddings, Ronnie Eddings , Michael (Jean) Eddings; daughter, Darla (Eddie) Schoolfield; grandchildren, Gordon (Weslynn) Chickering, Mark (Pam) Chickering, Brunson (Ashley) Eddings, Gregory Holden, Joshua Holden, Zachary Hornsby, Joseph (Teresa) Pate, Erin (Justin) Long, Chris Schoolfield, David (Kim) Schoolfield, Steven Schoolfield and Jamie (Joey) Hendrix;13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Emily (Jones) Lucas, Eloise Rankin; brother, Joe S. (Ruby) Hornsby; brother-in-law, Leonard L. Price.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth D. Hornsby and a sister, Jewel Price.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the loving care extended to Mr. Hornsby by Pinedale Residential Care, Dr. Alice Brooks, KershawHealth and KershawHealth Hospice.
