ELGIN-Funeral service for Victor Charles “Vic” Marthers, 79, will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church, Elgin. Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Blaney Fire Department, P.O. Box 789, Elgin, S.C. 29045. Mr. Marthers died Thursday, February 26, 2009. Born in Winnsboro, S.C., he was a son of the late William Wesley Marthers and Francis Viola Tidwell. He retired from Lugoff Elgin Water Authority and was currently a security guard at Wood Creek Farms. He was a volunteer fireman with Blaney Fire Department for over 30 years and served as Santa Claus for the Elgin Catfish Stomp for 30 years. He attended Union Baptist Church and was a member of Masonic Lodge # 411. Surviving are his sons, Charles Victor Marthers (Mary Jo) of Lugoff, and George W. (Angie) Marthers of Elgin; daughter, Annette “Penny” (Tommy) Anderson of West Columbia; sisters, Mable Parker, Lucille Berry and Janie Garner; and grandchildren, Charlene Marthers, Denise Marthers, Leslie Anderson, Mitch Anderson, Johnathan Marthers, and Adriana Marthers. He was predeceased by brothers, Arthur Lee Marthers, Sam Marthers, Grady Marthers, George Marthers, and Ed Marthers ; sisters, Soda Bell Walker and Gertrude Marthers.
