Marguerite Bruce McCaskill was born July 19, 1917 in Blaney, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas Murdock McCaskill  and Ada Irene Maddox McCaskill.

1940 Census Information:

Head of household, Thomas Murdock McCaskill (56) his wife Pearl Kelly McCaskill (46) son Van Hindenberg McCaskill  (25), daughter, Marguerite Bruce McCaskill (22), daughter Olive Bryan McCaskill Oppenlander (20), son Thomas Quentin McCaskill (16), daughter Memory Rose McCaskill (15), daughter Eleanor Jean McCaskill (13) and son Joseph Reynolds McCaskill (11) rented a house for a reported $5.00 per month. It was reported the family members were all born in South Carolina. Thomas Murdock McCaskill was a foreman for the WPA Road Project, Pearl Kelly McCaskill kept house, Von Hindenberg McCaskill was a meat cutter for the meat market, Margaret Bonse McCaskill, Olive Bryan McCaskill, Thomas Clinton McCaskill,  Memory Rose McCaskill, Eleanor Jean McCaskill and Joseph Reynolds McCaskill all attended school.

COLUMBIA – Marguerite Bruce McCaskill, 91, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Born July 19, 1917 in Blaney, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas Murdock McCaskill  and Ada Irene Maddox McCaskill and the step-daughter of Pearl Kelly McCaskill.

She graduated from Bishopville High School and taught adult education for two years. She then graduated from Highpoint College in Highpoint, N.C. as valedictorian of her class and taught at Aynor High School for 4 years. She spent 32 years teaching at Brookland Cayce High School, finishing her career as head of the English Department. In 1974, she received the honor of Teacher of the Year. Miss McCaskill was a member at Greene Street Methodist Church for 63 years. She taught young people in training school, Methodist Youth Fellowship and in various other programs.

She is survived by sisters, Memory Rose McCaskill of Columbia and Jean Deloach and her husband, Earl of Varnville, S.C.; one brother, Joseph Reginald (Dick) McCaskill and his wife Annette of Whitmire; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at Greene Street United Methodist Church on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Greene Street United Methodist Church, 1106 Greene Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201 or to Brookland Cayce Scholarship Fund.
