Obituary of Donald Lee Smith

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Donald Lee Smith Sr.,76, will be held Sunday at 6 pm at Harvest Baptist Church. Rev. Bill Dulaney will officiate. Pallbearers will be Don Jarvis, Billy Zissitt, Travis Hinson, Jim Major, Don Sellers, Grady Small. The family will receive friends Sunday 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A funeral service with military honors will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church in Kissimmee, Fla., with burial in Mount Peace Cemetery, St. Cloud, Fla. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Hospice or Harvest Baptist/Missions.

Mr. Smith, husband of the late Alpha Geraldine Davis Smith, died Friday, January 25, 2008. Born in Merna, Neb., he was a son of the late Ralph Smith and Artis Smith. He retired from the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He received National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a Purple Heart.

Mr. Smith retired from the Florida flood control. He enjoyed working in the church, woodworking, and motorcycle riding. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

Surviving are his children; Ronald Smith of St. Cloud, Fla., Donald Smith Jr. and his wife, Margaret A. “Maggie” of St. Cloud, Fla., and Donna Sanborn and her husband, Gene of Salina, Kan.; fiancée, Barbara Rabon; brothers, Bob Smith of St. Cloud, Fla., Eugene Smith of Great Falls, Mont.; sister, Betty Oneal of Davenport, Fla.; 19grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
