Funeral services for J. Paul Ross, Jr., 75, of Elgin, were held Sunday, Jan. 13 at Blaney Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The Rev. Philip Blankenship officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children & Youth Fund at Blaney Baptist Church, 1400 Blaney Road, Elgin, S.C. 29045 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Kirkland, 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
Mr. Ross died Friday, Jan. 11, 2011. Born in Elgin, he was the son of the late Joseph Paul Ross and Lillian Carrie Hair Ross
He was an active member of Blaney Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. After retiring from the S.C. Park, Recreation and Tourism Department, he fulfilled his dream of being a master woodcraftsman as owner of Paul’s Wood Crafts.
Surviving are his wife, Claudia Dreher Ross; son, Dr. J. Paul Ross III and his wife, LeAnn, of Spartanburg; daughter, Tammy Ross Horak and her husband, Jeff, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; sisters, Margie Crowley of Greer and Syderas Hair Ross Sanders of Elgin; and brother, Dr. Harold E. Ross of Johnson City, Tenn.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Ross Bolin. Mr. Ross was a loving husband and dedicated father, grandfather and brother.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff Elgin Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
