Mattie Lucille Rabon Branham was born in Blaney, SC on August 29, 1918, a daughter of the late John Henry Rabon & Blanche Edith Rabon.

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States Census recorded on May 9, 1930, John H Raban (40) rented a home in Blaney, Kershaw, South Carolina he made his home with his wife, Edith B Raban (34). It was reported that they were married when John was 27 and Edith was 21, placing their marriage about 1917. Also in the home was their children; Jessie M Raban (13), Mattie L Raban (11), Mary E Raban (9), Helen E Raban (8), Adell M Raban (6), John H Raban Jr. (2), Blanche V Raban (1) and William T Raban (26 days old). All of the household members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. John H Raban was a foreman on the railroad section crew.

2007

Mattie Lucille Rabon Branham, of Elgin, widow of the late James C. Branham, Sr., passed away Friday morning, August 31, 2007, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Sonny Branham and Judy Branham. She was 89.

She was born in Blaney, SC, August 29, 1918, a daughter of the late John Henry Rabon and Blanche Edith Rabon. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and graduated from Blaney School as Salutatorian of the class of 1936. She was an award-winning salesperson for Western Auto for more than 20 years. In her later years she was employed by the Council on Aging in Camden as Activity & Fundraiser Director. Everyone enjoyed her talent of playing the harmonica.

Survivors included sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Judy Branham of Elgin, Jon and Judy Branham of Hopkins, and Don and Mariam Branham of Elgin; daughters and son-in-law, Blanche and Frank Cribbs of Mebane, N.C., Donna Branham of Elgin, and Debbie Branham of Elgin; brothers, John Henry Rabon, Jr. and William S. Rabon, both of Elgin; sisters, Jessie Mae Higgins of Westville, Mary Hudson of Elgin, Adelle Kelly of Elgin, and Virginia Monroe of Pontiac; 17 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and 3 Great Great-Grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Irma J. Sweat; granddaughter, Melissa Conant; great grandson, Nicholas Conant; and sister, Helen Steadman.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Tri County Hospice, or the National Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral service were held Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, September 1, 2007, 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
