ELGIN – Funeral service for Mattie Lucille Rabon Branham will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
Mrs. Branham, widow of the late James C. Branham, Sr., passed away Friday morning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Sonny Branham and Judy Branham. She was 89.
She was born in Blaney, SC on August 29, 1918, a daughter of the late John Henry Rabon & Blanche Edith Rabon. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and graduated from Blaney School as Salutatorian of the class of 1936. She was an award-winning salesperson for Western Auto for more than 20 years. In her later years she was employed by the Council on Aging in Camden as Activity & Fundraiser Director. Everyone enjoyed her talent of playing the harmonica.
Survivors included sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny Branham and Judy Branham of Elgin, Jon and Judy Branham of Hopkins, and Don and Mariam Branham of Elgin; daughters and son-in-law, Blanche and Frank Cribbs of Mebane, N.C., Donna Branham of Elgin, and Debbie Branham of Elgin; brothers, John Henry Rabon, Jr. and William S. Rabon, both of Elgin; sisters, Jessie Mae Higgins of Westville, Mary Hudson of Elgin, Adelle Kelly of Elgin, and Virginia Monroe of Pontiac; 17 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and 3 Great Great-Grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Irma J. Sweat; granddaughter, Melissa Conant; great grandson, Nicholas Conant; and sister, Helen Steadman.
Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Tri County Hospice, or the National Alzheimer’s Association.
