Helen Miller Anderson

Mrs. Helen Virginia Miller Anderson, widow of the late Camden Mayor, James L. Anderson, died July 2, 2007. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11:00 am at Quaker Cemetery in Camden by the Rev. Hugh McKinney of Lakeview Baptist church.

A Camden resident most of her life, she was born October 9, 1919, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Miller of Lexington, NC. She was a stepdaughter of Mrs. Margaret Miller Trotter of Camden.

Mrs. Anderson graduated from Valley Crucis Episcopal School, NC, and was for many years the secretary-bookkeeper at her husband’s business, Camden Machine Works. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church from the time of its founding, and until later years she was active in a number of civic and charitable organizations.

During World War II, she sold war bonds and aided with the Red Cross, and later helped the American Cancer Society and the Tuberculosis Association. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Camden City Library Board, and the Camden Archives Commission. Mrs. Anderson was also a nature and animal lover.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Penny (Bobby) Pullum of Camden; her son, James L. Anderson, Jr. of Beckley, West Virginia; her grandson, Robert A. (Bob) Pullum of San Francisco; and granddog, Lucy.

Pallbearers will be Mac Anderson, Dick Blaskowitz, Mary Elizabeth Garrison, Glen Inabinet, Neil Rose and Tommy Rose.

Memorials may be made to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair Street, Camden, SC 29020 or Lakeview Baptist Church, 1520 Mill Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
