COLUMBIA – Memorial services for Colbert H. Campbell, 72, will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
Officiating will be the Rev. Frank Mims and the Rev. Phillip Blankenship. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Campbell passed away Monday, October 30, 2006, after a short battle with Leukemia. Born in Elgin, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Campbell and Iola Goff Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a resident of Columbia and a member of Blaney Baptist Church in Elgin. He began his career as an attendant at the S.C. State Hospital. Through hard work and loyalty, he retired as Director of Procurement from the S.C. Department of Mental Health after 35 years of service. Mr. Campbell was a member of the S.G.P.O.A. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Frances Clamp Campbell of Columbia; sister, Vivian C. Gardner and husband, Harvey Gardner, of Elgin; brothers, Claytor Campbell and wife, Hazel Campbell, of Aiken, Claude Campbell, Charles Campbell and wife, Maxine Campbell, all of Elgin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
