ELGIN – Funeral service for Claudius Berniest Dreher, 94, of Elgin, will be held 11 o’clock, Thursday, November 2, 2006, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Anne Christiansen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Mr. Dreher died Monday, October 30, 2006. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Claudius B. Dreher and Mary Louise “Mamie” Daniels Dreher. He was a former member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church and a current member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Dreher served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a business owner in the Columbia area from 1958 to 1993. Mr. Dreher was a loving husband and dedicated father known to many as “Big Daddy.” Big Daddy will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Mary Westberry and Dick Hellman of Lexington/Elgin, Claudia D. and Paul Ross of Elgin, Carolyn D and Richard Griffin of Irmo, Patricia Kay and Frankie Gantt of West Columbia, Ingar D. and Willie Vining of Gaston, Claudius B. “Bernie” III and Julie Dreher of Lexington; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Sybil Spratlin Dreher, and a granddaughter, Janet Ross Bolin.
