ELGIN – Funeral services for George Duffie Goodwin, 97, will be held Sunday, June 4, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, with burial to follow in Blaney Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Bill Mattox and Robert Loner, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. before the service in Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Blaney Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1400 Blaney Road, Elgin, SC 29045.
Mr. Goodwin, widower of the late Clara Motley Goodwin, died Friday, June 2, 2006. Born in Gaston, SC, he was the son of the late Vestern Goodwin and Corrie Berry Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin first worked for the Postal Telegraph Company for 13 years and later he retired from the City of Columbia as an electrician, and also was a retired farmer. Mr. Goodwin was a longtime member of the Blaney Baptist Church, where he was a lifetime Deacon and a former Sunday School Secretary. He was a former Town Councilman and a very avid Nascar fan.
Surviving are daughter, Gayle G. Ross and her husband, Roger, of Elgin; and son, George M. Goodwin and his wife, Marlene, of Columbia; grandchildren, Kim G. Spigener and her husband, Scott, of Columbia, Mitchell M. Goodwin and his wife, Misha, of Columbia; great- grandchildren, Asher and Brice Spigener; niece, Maria Holm of Palm Desert, California; 1 sister, Bertie Mae Hendrix of West Columbia; 2 brothers, Edgar Goodwin and Dalton Goodwin, both of West Columbia; caregivers, Virginia Addison, Mitzi Beam, Betty Martin and Grace Ross.
Mr. Goodwin was predeceased by 3 brothers, Theron Goodwin, Leo Goodwin and Woodrow Goodwin; and 1 sister, Gertilee Elvington.
