Minnie Grace Watson, 86, of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006.
She was an honors graduate of Winthrop University. Her 45-year teaching career included teaching in St. George and in the Columbia area at Brookland-Cayce Elementary School, Brockman Elementary and Hyatt Park Elementary. She was twice named “Teacher of the Year” for Richland School District 1. A member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, Mrs. Watson taught Sunday School, was a member and leader of the Joy Club and member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was also an avid Bridge player. She was loved by all who knew her.
Surviving was brother, Steve F. Watson; sister, Carolyn Ann Watson Barden of Columbia; sister-in-law, Jean F. Watson of Elgin; lifelong friend, Louise Senn of Newberry; nieces and nephew, Donna Jean Holloway, Mary Lisa Bowman and John Robert Barden; and great-nieces, great- nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by brothers, James Donald Watson Jr. and Robert O.Watson and niece, Catherine Watson.
Services was held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Blaney Baptist Church Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation was Saturday 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church.
