ELGIN – Funeral services for Mr. Luther Eugene Hornsby, 72, of Elgin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dallas Redden officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Northeast. The body will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.
Mr. Hornsby died unexpectedly Sunday, August 21, 2005, in Providence Hospital Northeast. Born December 22, 1932, in Blaney, SC, he was a son of the late Holley Thomas Hornsby, Sr. and Janie Marie Ross Hornsby and a lifelong resident of Elgin. He retired in 1998 from Greenlawn Memorial Park with 20 years of faithful service.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Ruthie Mae Hornsby of Elgin; two daughters, Linda Diane Snow of Hopkins and Wanda H. Maldonado of Columbia; two sons, Larry Eugene Hornsby of Hopkins, and Luther Wayne Hornsby of Elgin; two sons-in-law, Jerry Michael Snow of Hopkins and Charles Alton Stewart, Sr. of Columbia; a brother, Holley Thomas Hornsby, Jr. of Elgin; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three great-grandchildren.
