Eloise Goff Starling was born July 19, 1922, in Blaney, South Carolina, the daughter of John Preston Goff and Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Goff

1930 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on April 30, 1930, John P Goff (38), rented a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife, Maggie M Gaff (36), and their children; Ezell C Gaff (17), Rena E Gaff (15), Mildred A Gaff (13), Susie L Gaff (11), Eloise L Gaff (9), Thelma E Gaff (6), James H Gaff (4), Linwood J Gaff (2), Le Ray F Gaff (1). All family members were born in South Carolina. John P Goff was a farmer on general farm and Ezell C Gaff was a farm laborer on a farm.

1940 Census Information:

According to the United States census reported on April 15, 1940, J R Goff (48), rented a home in Wateree, Kershaw County, South Carolina, with his wife, Maggie Goff (46), and their children; Ezell Goff (25), Rena Goff (25), Susie Goff (21), Eloise Goff (18), Thelma Goff (16), James Goff (14), Linwood Goff (12), Leroy Goff (10), Wylan Goff (3). All family members were born in South Carolina and lived in the same house on April 1, 1935. J R Goff was a farm operator on a farm, Ezell Goff and Rena Goff were laborers on the farm, and Susie Goff was a laborer with the N. Y. A. Project.

1950

On February 3, 1950, Mrs. Wesley Starling was listed as a living sister in the obituary of Ezel C Goff.

2004

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Mrs. Eloise Goff Starling, 83, will be held two o’clock, Thursday, December 16, 2004 in Alpine Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery. Officiating will be The Reverend Rick Kirchinger and her son, The Reverend Charles W. Starling. The family will receive friends from six until eight-thirty o’clock this (Wednesday) evening at Shives Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Starling’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Prime Timer’s. Memorials may be made to the Prime Timer’s Senior Group at Alpine Baptist Church, 4920 Alpine Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

Mrs. Starling, widow of Wesley Shelton Starling, died, Monday, December 13, 2004. Born in Blaney, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Goff and Maggie Goff. She was a charter member of Alpine Baptist Church, the Prime Timer’s Senior Group, and The Ladies Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry L. Starling and his wife, Jackie of Elgin, Richard T. Starling of Lugoff, and The Reverend Charles W. Starling and his wife, Beverly of Lexington; twin daughters, Linda S. Wooten and her husband, Lem, Jr. of Elgin and Brenda K. Collins and her husband, Steve of Lugoff; 13 grandchildren, Jerry Lee, Jennifer, Jeff, Tracy, Richie, Wes, Shelton, Lauren, Will, TJ, Clay, Melissa and Stephanie; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Wilson and Wylean Jordan, both of Camden.

Mrs. Starling was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
