Rev. Mary Elizabeth Grant Washington

ELGIN – Services for Rev. Mary Elizabeth Grant Washington, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Young’s Chapel Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Young’s Chapel Baptist Church. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Rev. Washington died Thursday, September 16, 1999. Born in Barnwell County, she was a daughter of the late L.G. Grant and Annie Mae Williams Grant. She was an Associate Minister, Adult Sunday School Teacher, member of the Usher Board, and President of Outreach Ministries at Young’s Chapel. She was an educator, retiring in 1998 from Richland County School District I (John P. Thomas Elementary School). She held the office of clerk in the Mt. Hebron Baptist Association and was a member of the Adult Education Advisory Committee. She was also a long-time employee of the University of South Carolina under the title Work Control Clerk III.

Surviving are her husband, Albert Washington of Elgin; son, Albert Washington; daughter, Evangelist Elizabeth L. (Pastor Timothy) Sligh; sisters, Richardine Monroe of Allendale, S.C., Mary E. (Robert) Lee of Martin, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one godson, Jerry Wilson.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Annie D. Washington.
