COLUMBIA – Services for Leonard Gardner Jr., 72, will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Highway Church, Elgin, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8:30 tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Holmes Bible College, Greenville.

Mr. Gardner died Friday, September 10, 1999. Born in Kershaw Co., he was a son of Leonard Gardner Sr. and Eunice Rabon Gardner. He received his BA from USC and his Masters from Western Carolina University. He was a charter member of Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity at Western Carolina University. He was a teacher and former principal at E.L. Wright Junior High School and Dentsville High School and served as the first principal at Spring Valley High School. He was a minister and lay minister, a home builder and attended Northeast Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Miriam Jeffers Gardner; sons, Leonard (Jeff)ers Gardner of Blackstock, Timothy J. Gardner, Stanford R. Gardner, both of Columbia; daughter, Catherine Gardner Knapp of Providence, R.I.; sisters, Nellie Wilson, Sarah Wilson, both of Winnsboro, Mildred Wesbrook of Fla.; grandchildren, Gardner H. Knapp, Anna P. Knapp, Leonard J. Gardner Jr., Sarah E. Gardner, Matthew R. Gardner, Amanda T. Gardner.
