Ethel Cook Brooks was born September 24, 1915 in Blaney, South Carolina, a daughter of Ransom Thomas Cook, Sr., and Minnie Laura Easler Cook.

GASTON – Funeral services for Ethel Cook Brooks, 83, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 23, 1999, at Convent Baptist Church, Leesville. The Revs. Bill Padgett and Carl B. Koon will officiate. Interment will be in Cook Family Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the Church at 1 p.m. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Convent Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brooks, widow of Charles Woodrow Brooks, died Friday, August 20, 1999 at Lexington Medical Center. Born in Blaney, she was a daughter of the late Ranson Thomas Cook Sr. and Minnie Easler Cook. She was a graduate of Clemson University School of Business and was a manager with Rush’s retiring after 15 years of service. Mrs. Brooks was a member of Convent Baptist Church in Leesville.

Surviving are her daughter, Gwendolyn Brooks Wojdula of Gaston; son, Woody Brooks of Gaston; grandchildren, Wendell W. Brooks Jr., Myka Gates and George Gates, Tyson Rantz Farris; great-grandchildren, Charolton Gates, Geo Gates, Garrett Gates; sisters, Ruby Jordan, Lois Lewis, both of Columbia, Gladys Staikos and husband, Angelo Staikos of Leesville, Minnie Faye Amick and husband, Carl Amick of Gaston, Sarah Olga White of Leesville; brothers, R. T. Cook Jr. and wife, Claudia Cook of Columbia, W. R. Cook Sr. and Shirley Hicks of Leesville; sister-in-law, Gracie Cook of Columbia.

She was predeceased by a son, Charles Everette Brooks, a brother, Olin Cook, a sister, Cleo Amick and brother in law, Harvey Amick.
