Curtis Willie Morgan was born November 18, 1914 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, a son of Alvin Levert “Jack” Morgan and Sarah Alice Nelson Morgan.

1920 Census Information:

According to the 1920 United States Census recorded on January 13, 1920, Jack L Morgan (32) rented a farm in Wateree Township, Kershaw, South Carolina, with whom he shared with his wife, Allice Morgan (37) and their children; Certis Morgan (5), Pearl Morgan (2) and Ellie Morgan (5 months old). All of the household members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Jack L Morgan was a farmer on a general farmer and Allice Morgan was a laborer on the farm.

1930 Census Information:

According to the 1930 United States Census recorded on May 1, 1930, Alvin L Morgan (41) rented a farm in Wateree Township, Kershaw, South Carolina, with whom he shared with his wife, S Alice Morgan. They reported having been married when he was 21-years-old and she was 26-years-old. Also in the home was their children; Curtis W Morgan (15), Pearl H Morgan (12), Ellie Morgan (10) and Pervis B Morgan (8). All of the household members were reported to have been born in South Carolina. Alvin L Morgan was a farmer on a general farm and Curtis W Morgan was a laborer on the farm.

1940 Census Information:

According to the 1940 United States Census recorded on April 9, 1940, A L Morgan (51) owned a farm in Wateree Township, Kershaw, South Carolina, with whom he shared with his wife, Alice Morgan (58), his children; Pearl Morgan (22), Ellie Morgan (19), Purvis Morgan (18) Curtis Morgan (25), his daughter-in-law, Ruth Morgan (21) and his father-in-law; W B Nelsen (85). All of the household members were reported to have been born in South Carolina and living in the same house on April 1, 1935. A L Morgan was a farmer on a general farm, Pearl Morgan was a laborer in laundry, Purvis Morgan was a laborer on the farm and Curtis Morgan was a helper on the farm.

1999

ELGIN – Services for Curtis Willie Morgan, 84, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Hospice, or the charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Morgan died Tuesday, May 25, 1999. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Alvin Levert “Jack” Morgan and Sarah Alice Nelson Morgan. He was a retired Security Guard with Camden Hardwood Company following 11 years of service and also retired from farming after 10 years. He was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, a former deacon and member of the Men’s Sunday School Class.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ruth Branham Morgan of Elgin; sons, J.C. Morgan Sr., Purvis Morgan, both of Elgin, Stephen “Rusty” Morgan Sr. of Meldrim, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Morgan Wessinger of Columbia. He was predeceased by his daughter, Erline Morgan Wilson; son, Benny A. Morgan Sr.; sisters, Ellie I. Morgan and Martha Gertrude Morgan; brother, Purvis B. Morgan.
