Mary Tilden Guy was born December 20, 1902 in Charlottesville, Va., daughter of Captain Edward T. Hoopes, U.S. Navy, Retired, and Maude Peterson Hoopes.
On October 3, 1935, Miss Mary Tilden Hoopes was listed in the newspaper article “South Carolina Man Marries In Cambridge.“
On March 1, 1983, Mrs. Mary Tilden Guy was listed as a living wife in the obituary of Edwin Powe Guy.
CAMDEN – Services for Mary Tilden Hoopes Guy, 96, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at Old Saint Davids Episcopal Church on Church Street, Cheraw, with interment in the church cemetery. Dr. William F. Summers will officiate. Memorials may be made to Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 S. Fair Street, Camden 29020. Kornegay Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Guy, widow of Edwin Powe Guy, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. Born in Charlottesville, Va., she was a daughter of the late Captain Edward T. Hoopes, U.S. Navy, Retired, and Maude Peterson Hoopes. She was a former school teacher and graduate of Wheelock College, Boston, Mass. She was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Lindsay Guy Moss of Marietta, Ga.; son, James Lindsay Guy II of Boykin; grandchildren, Leslie Guy Coplin of Marietta, Ga., James Lindsay Guy III of Boykin; great-granddaughter, Margaret West Guy of Boykin.
