WEST COLUMBIA – Services for Wallace Edwin Thornton Sr., 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Larry Thornton, Donald Thornton Jr., Tim Hulst, Grady Satcher, Tetie Paul and Dennis Mangum. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Class II of Oakwood Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at Oakwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Thornton died Sunday, July 12, 1998. Born in Blaney, he was a son of the late Joseph Earl Thornton and Susie Watson Thornton. As a lifetime resident, he was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, and retired from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Agnes Thornton of West Columbia; sons, Wallace E. Thornton Jr. of West Columbia and the Rev. Dan Thornton of Salisbury, N.C.; sisters, Rae Hulst of Columbia, Mary Mangum of Blythewood and Doris Paul of Lexington; brother, E.H. Thornton of Elgin; grandchildren, Brian E. Thornton, Beth T. Yandle, Caroline Ward and Daniel Thornton; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Satcher, and by a brother, Donald Thornton Sr.
