An Army veteran of World War II, he retired as a carpenter.

Surviving were his wife, Vera Boone Branham; sons, John Branham Jr. of Elgin and Charles Branham of Bennettsville; a daughter Lynn Eastep of Little Rock, Ark; a brother, Leonard Branham of Elgin; and sisters, Ruth Morgan and Juanita Croker, both of Elgin, and Maude Cherry of Lugoff.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hillcrest Baptist Church. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
